Occupational therapists have a whole-body scope of practice and are able to holistically evaluate and treat a variety of conditions and developmental components, including:
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, or IBCLC, holds the highest credential in the professional field of lactation. The IBCLC scope of practice is unique in that it includes both the lactating parent and infant as a pair, or "dyad". It allows for comprehensive maternal, child, & feeding assessment, as well as evidence-based education as it relates to breastfeeding and human lactation. IBCLCs can provide personalized guidance on all things breastfeeding, pumping, bottles, and more.
Feeding therapy is a specialized service provided by a licensed Occupational Therapist or Speech-Language Pathologist. Practitioners who provide infant feeding therapy require significant training and continuing education in infant anatomy, physiology, and pathology, especially as it relates to feeding and swallowing. Feeding therapists can help families get to the root cause of feeding challenges with evidence-based evaluation & treatment.
With dual credentials as both an Occupational Therapist (OT) and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), care comes from a provider who understands how feeding, motor skills, and development overlap. This unique skill set means families benefit from a truly multidisciplinary perspective without having to coordinate between separate specialists.
All too often, families get stuck in a visit loop with providers who lack the time or expertise to meet their goals in a timely manner. Families may also need to book with multiple providers depending on their needs. Even with insurance, the cost can add up quickly! With high quality integrated services, families save money with fewer visits and referrals required.
When providers are unable to see the bigger picture or don't know what to look for, a lot of cases can slip through the cracks. It's important to understand that feeding struggles, motor delays, and lactation challenges are often connected, and how they impact one another. By addressing them together, we can identify root causes more quickly and create more effective, individualized care plans.
Appointments, evaluations, and follow-ups are streamlined in one place—in the comfort of your own home! Families save time by avoiding multiple referrals and extra visits, making it easier to get the right care quickly as you juggle the demands of parenthood.
An integrated approach means more services in one and fewer appointments overall — babies make faster gains when therapy, feeding, and lactation support are coordinated from the start, reducing the financial and emotional burden on families.
When parents and babies feel supported in feeding, comfort, and development, everyone thrives. Integrated care decreases pain, stress, and feeding difficulties, while increasing bonding, self-efficacy, and confidence.
